Retrospective - Learn from the past

A retrospective is a technique for assessing a project, an agile sprint or any other kind of event. It helps teams formalising lessons learned and crafting recommendations for the future.

1. What happened?

Take a few minutes to think of:

  • What went well?
  • What did not go so well?

Write down each specific idea on a separate card.

Note: during this step you will not see other's ideas

2. What is important?

If we want to improve our performance, on what should we focus on?

You have 15 points to distribute on the most important items to focus on.

3. What is important: Results!

Have a look at the cards with highest number of points.

Is it relevant? If yes, you can put aside the other cards and go to the next step.

4. How can we improve?

For each one of the selected cards, answer these questions:

  • Why did it happen? Write down the root causes.
  • How can we improve? Write down the solutions.

5. What is next?

Discuss all the improvement ideas then identify and write down 5 actions that the team can implement now.
